Academy UK
Funded by the Big Lottery and the Arts Council, Academy UK is RTC’s three year project to provide young Romany and non-Romany people with access to certified training in theatrical and performance skills. Courses available include both the artistic and the technical, ranging from drama, dance, music, signing, to lighting and set design, in addition to script development, production, and direction. The performing skills course is accredited by the Open College Network.
We’re determined that young people should be able to regard a career in the arts as a viable option, and we hope that Academy UK can provide them with the necessary skills to support them in this choice. We’re proud of the the creative and supportive environment of the Academy and the training that is delivered by professional artists and tutors.
Participants stage a public performance at the end of the course. The 2006 Academy course produced The Ursitory, by Matéo Maximoff, which played at the Sir John Mills Theatre, Ipswich.
